In this lesson, the students will be introduced to some collocations within the context of top tips for a Healthy heart. They will read a text about some good and bad habits for your heart.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher starts by displaying pictures about healthy and unhealthy lifestyle. The students discuss these pictures in pairs. T elicits two key words (healthy and unhealthy) and paste them on the wall. T asks Ss again to decide whether they have healthy or unhealthy lifestyle.

Collocation Clarification (12-14 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T splits the class into two groups, the first group have these collocations, memorize them, hide them, explain them to each other. The second group have pictures of those collocations, memorize them, hide them, explain them to each other. Three minutes later, everyone stands up looking for his partner. After that each pair decides if their picture is healthy or unhealthy and paste it on the wall. T provides some important notes about these collocations. 1. we do exercise not (we make exercise) 2.I do some exercise, I like grammar exercises. 3. get fit and get stressed means become ..... 4. we use be with high/low fat 5. stop smoking not (stop smoke). T models and drills stressed, weight, heart, high, low, gym

Controlled practice (5-7 minutes) • To consolidate the meaning of the given collocations .

Ss have HOs of a controlled exercise. They do it in pairs and then T gives FB on the board.

Prediction for the text (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with predictable questions to make Ss interested in reading the text.

Ss have HOs of some question about the following text. They work in pairs and guess the answers. In this stage, Ss do not have to read the text because it is a predicting task. Then Ss have HOs of the text to read for FB.

While-Reading (9-11 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

T asks Ss to read the text again and find four tips that are good for their hearts and four that are bad. Ss have HOs to write down their answers. T gives enough time to accomplish the task. Ss check in pairs. T gives FB on the projector.
