Rebel and Demonstrations

Description

In this lesson, students will learn action and state verbs based on a listening task in the context of rebel and demonstration. They will also learn new lexis. This will be followed by a reading task in the context of celebrity rebels. The lesson will start with some pictures of demonstrations and then will continue with listening tasks for specific reasons. They will have both controlled and freer practice.

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about protesting in the context of demostration

  • To provide practice of protest lexis in the context of demonstration

Procedure

lead in (5-8 minutes) • To engage students

Teacher plays a video clip about demonstration and elicits some words like demonstration, protesters, slogan. Then continues with teaching other words through pictures. CCQs are asked e.g.: T shows people walking in the street and asks if they are demonstrating.

Pre-listening Task • To familiarize Ss

T asks why people demonstrate. Then asks students to match slogans with causes. T gets FB and writes the answers on the board.

Pre-listening Task (4-5 minutes)

T draws Ss attention to pictures on page 71 and sks them to guess Their slogans. T plays the audio and gets feedback.

While Listening Task (4-6 minutes) • To improve students' listening

T gives the HOs and asks Ss to read the T/F sentences. Then she plays the audio for the second time and gets feedback.

Lexis Practice (5-10 minutes) • To familiarize Ss with the protesting lexis

T pre-teaches some words like anti, against, in favor. CCQs: Do they have positive meaning or negative? Do they agree with the idea or disagree? T asks Ss to match the words in the box with the sentences. T asks Ss to write the correct answers on the board and checks any unknown words.

Post listening Task (10-14 minutes) • To personalize the activity

T demonstrates the activity and asks Ss to stand up and ask their friends' opinions about exercise 1 and why. T gives colorful paper to Ss and asks them to find their partners and sit together . Then they should talk about their friend. T gets FB by asking some Ss to explain.
