Main Aims

  • To provide practice of gist and detailed listening skills

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide speaking for fluency in the context of giving instructions

Procedure

Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage the Ss

Ss will be asked "who likes shopping online?" Then they will give their opinions and after that I will ask them to learn me how to do that then I will repeat after them "so first.. and then...." trying to Elicit the word (instructions) from them.

Pre-reading/listening (3-4 minutes) • To prepare the Ss for the text and pre-teach them the vocab

project pictures of the related words on the WB and try to elicit the words from the Ss. If the projector doesn't work I will stick the pictures on the WB. Ss will be given two stories to skim in less than 1 min and tell me the common reason of the problems which the characters had faced.

While-listening gist (5-6 minutes) • To provide the Ss with less challenging task

If the Ss were 12_16 class will be divided into four groups and given cut-ups containing excerpts of the listening. Ss will be instructed to arrange the Cut-ups in chronological order. Then they will check each other's work.

While-listening detail (8-10 minutes) • To provude the Ss with more challenging inference listening task

Ss will listen again and answer the 2 questions given in the book after being regrouped. T will ask the Ss if they agree on the answer of each question to have them all engaged. This will be followed by a HO related to the same audio to complete it.

Post listening- controlled practice (2-3 minutes) • To introduce the functional language for giving instructions.

Ss will listen to instructions for using a piece of equipment trying to guess what it is.

Post listening- freer practice (6-7 minutes) • To give the Ss an opportunity to use what they learnt from the listening and practice their speaking.

Ss will be told to think about a piece of equipment they often use and write instructions for how to use it. Then in pairs the will take turns to guess what it is. Ps if no time they won't be asked to write the instruction, just speak
