Description

In this lesson, the students will learn some new words within the context of renting a flat. They will have also the opportunity to practice these vocabularies with there is/there are in a semi-free speaking exercise.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of furniture words in the context of renting a flat.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of renting a flat.

Procedure

Warming-up (4-5 minutes) • To get students interested in the topic of renting a flat.

The teacher display some picture (airport, passengers, estate agent, apartment(. Then the teacher elicits the main topic " Renting a flat" and elicits the parts of a flat ( bedroom, living room, bathroom, kitchen, balcony(. The teacher focuses on MFP of these words.

Vocabulary presentation (14-16 minutes) • To present the vocabulary of furniture

The teacher will give the students handouts of word list a large picture of a flat plan to match the list of words with their numbers. Ss do the match in GW. Teacher gives FB on the projector. T focuses on MFP of these words.

Controlled practice (10-12 minutes) • To consolidate the spelling and the meaning of the given words.

The teacher divides the class into four groups.The teacher gives the students some scraps of the vocabularies they have just learned to paste them under the correct category on the wall. this activity is meant to consolidate the meaning. The second exercise is crossword for the same vocabularies which focuses on the spelling of the words. The students do this activity individually, check in pairs and the teacher gives FB on the projector.

Semi-controlled speaking practice (11-12 minutes) • To practice fluency within the context of renting flat

The teacher divides the class into two big groups to do the role-play, the estate agent and the renter. The first group will have plans for two flats and the second group will have a list of furniture to ask about. The students have to do the task using there is/there are.The teacher monitors the GW and writes down some errors for delayed correction.Then the teacher tries to get the description of the ideal flat in a whole class FB
