Understand past tense sequencing through real-life storytelling

Identify actions and background interruptions using both past tenses
Procedure (50-60 minutes)
Ask students to think of the last time they were focused or working and someone or something interrupted them. Prompt questions: What were you doing? What happened? How did you react?
Students listen and answer: Who was involved? What happened? What made it funny, strange, or unexpected?
Procedure: Students listen again and complete: Left column: verbs and expressions used (past simple + continuous) Right column: what actions were happening when something else occurred Bottom: summary of the full story in their own words
Procedure: Students receive jumbled events from the story and must: Reconstruct the sequence Retell the story in pairs Use at least 2 past continuous and 2 past simple structures
Procedure: Students nominate words they heard but didn’t understand. Instructor: Boards each word Defines it, gives pronunciation, explains usage Optionally adds it to a class glossary page or board
