A1-B1 Vets Gen2 level

Description

Students will practice using the past continuous and past simple to describe veterinary incidents

Materials

Abc Flashcards

Main Aims

  • Practice narrating past events using past simple and past continuous

Subsidiary Aims

  • Develop fluency in describing real-time interruptions and background actions

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (8-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Write on board: What were you doing the last time something unexpected happened at work (or school/home)? Students share short examples with a partner using the prompt: I was ___ when ___ happened.

Productive Task(s) (68-70 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Task 1: Procedure: Give students cards describing common veterinary incidents or general surprise events. They take turns retelling the event in this format: I was [action] when [incident] happened. Then, [next action in past simple]. Task 2: Procedure: In small groups, students co-construct a veterinary or daily mishap story. Each person adds 1–2 lines using past continuous or past simple. Example structure: Person A: I was cleaning the floor when the cat ran into the room. Person B: It knocked over a tray of vaccines. Person C: I quickly picked everything up and called the vet. Once completed, each group reads their story aloud to the class. Task 3: Procedure: Tell your group about a real or imagined time when your routine was interrupted. What were you doing? What happened next? Use guiding questions on the board: Where were you? Who was involved? What was the result? Encourage use of storytelling with clear time markers and varied verbs.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Procedure: Each student makes: One sentence using past continuous One sentence using past simple
