Description

In this lesson, students learn and practise asking and answering questions in present simple tense third person form to find information about each other.

  • To provide speaking practice through reading tasks and activities.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

To build on previous lesson, set the context and re-introduce the characters : Put/Project pictures of the characters on the w/b SAY - Hello I am late sorry, I missed the last lesson.. WHO's he? Point at Mark, get Ss to tell you who he is. Elicit more information if you can, what does he do in his free time? and what about her, Kim? who is she? Speak in your groups! Draw a table and write about Kim as a reminder and a prep for the next activity.? Feedback on answers and fill the table. And Who are they? Elicit the names of the other 2 women.. Jo and Susie. Possible comment : Mark is very lucky!!

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Introduce, elicit MISSION SAY . Class we have a mission , to find the BEST GIRL for MARK! Pair Ss into As and Bs. (JO to A's and Susie to B's). (Print on different coloured sheets if you can) think about grouping. Try random grouping! Hands up if you are A. B? Give GIST TASK, Find their names and their age! ICQ Can you show your paper to your partner? NO! NOW READ the text! ALONE! (ASK everybody to skim read the text.) 1 minute! ASK them to Discuss their answers in Groups. Ask Ss to sit with their backs turned to each other. SAY TO Ss 'We have a mission' Show the questions on the paper , POINT at Columns TELL them to ASK Mark's questions on the sheet to each other (to find out about JO and SUSIE) and WRITE the answers on the table. MODEL it carefully before starting the activity. Ss take turns to ask and answer the questions! ok we have a mission, START!! MONITOR carefully for possible misunderstandings, POINT at OTHER and SAY "Write 3 more things about Jo and Susie here!"

Useful Language (1-2 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

for FB, carefully monitor then WRITE some errors on the board and correct them, eliciting from the students and modelling the correct usage.

Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • READING

NOW look at Mark,our friend Mark!! and the things he likes to do, then the ladies, Susie KIM and JO. In your groups, CHOOSE one (of them) for our mission, ICQs CAN YOU choose 2 women? NOooo Remember your table has to decide on 1 person for MARK! MONITOR carefully!! Then SAY WE HAVE A CLASS MISSION! CHOOSE ONE, PICK ONE OF THEM!!! W/C will choose THE person TELL them that last night THEY HAD a DATE! (Mark and the chosen women went on a date last night?) INTRODUCE the questions Do you think Mark likes her? Why? Highlight Do they want to see each other again and mime it? GIVE h/o's READ the text and answer questions in pairs. DO FB. get general ideas DO WClass FB to answer the Questions.

Productive Task(s) (15-18 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Carefully SETUP I've GOT A FRIEND for YOU. Model it carefully to explain!!, PROJECT it on the w/b. CHOOSe a PARTNER to work with! SAY , YOU HAVE a friend in mind (mime) for your PARTNER think of one friend that is good for the person next to you. Write his name and tick / circle the things he like. ALONE 1 min! GO! NOW IN PAIRS ASK ! What can we ask? His name, age, job, likes, dislikes etc. and write it! MODEL! Does he/she like... ??? Does he watch TV? WRITE your answers! OK now everybody STAND UP, YOU have a DATE GO and TELL others about your new DATE!!

Feedback and Error Correction (1-2 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

MONITOR carefully and WRITE on the W\B common patterned errors, QUCKLY elicit the correct answers from Ss Close the activity.
