Description

In this lesson students will learn new vocabulary about the given topic and practice their speaking fluency using new words.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • Engage ss on the topic

SS will be shown slides of pictures on the topic and they will find out the topic of the lesson and briefly give their opinion about the pictures. That will also find out their interest and vocabulary knowledge on the topic

Vocabulary Focus 1 (8-10 minutes) • To teach new words on the topic

In this stage the teacher is going to give them some words in the box, the ss will classify the words under the column of challenges and rewards. By doing so Ss will have a chance to check the words they know and do not know. After peer feedback teacher is going to teach the words which ss had problem to get. Eliciting the meaning of the words teacher is going to use some definition and examples to explain the words as well as providing form, stress part of speech and pronunciation. CCQ and drilling will be used in case of definition problems and wrong pronunciation

Extra oral practice (6-8 minutes) • To give students the opportunity to practice the newly learned vocabulary

Ss will be asked to give their opinion about parenthood by using vocabulary form the list and also adding some more from their background knowledge. SS will talk in pairs and engage in speaking about what being a parent is like In addition, Ss will choose 2 or 3 words from the list discussing what parents meant by using these words, for example, relentless challenges of mothers, having unpredictable or life-changing experiences, etc.

Vocabulary Focus 2 (8-10 minutes) • To introduce new words and allow students to practice vocabulary

Students will be given cut ups. There are some words they may not know. Before teacher explains them ss will have a chance to check how many of the words they know. After they do the task in pairs students are giving feedback to each other. Then the teacher gives her feedback on the challenging words through explaining meaning, form and pronunciation as well as CCQ and drilling To boost vocabulary knowledge more ss will be given the task to write examples or definitions for the words (3 or 4) chosen from the list of vocabulary focus 2, then ss change their paper with partners and write the correct words for the definition or examples. E.g It is when parents phone their children all the time, or read the messages on their mobiles-check up on /monitoring

Speaking fluency (10-12 minutes) • To allow students to practice new vocabulary

SS will work in pairs; they will be given statements on the screen or in HOs. They will give their opinion on the statements and engage in discussion. To make the task clear Teacher models one of the statement. After ss did the task in pairs they share their opinion with the whole class and getting more arguments on the topic.
