Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (6-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T: "I will show you some pictures and I want you to describe them." T plays a slideshow and the first picture shows people eating out. T "where are they? what are they doing? are they at home? is it just one person? are they busy? Are they having a good time" Ss describe the picture as a W/C "They are in a restaurant. They are having dinner. No, they are out. No, they are many. No, they are not busy. Yes, they are having a good time. " T shows another picture of a family at home, watching TV. T: "Who are they?" Ss "a family" T "where are they?" Ss "at home" T "are they outside?" Ss "No, they are inside" T "What are they doing" Ss "Watching TV" T "are they busy?" Ss ''No, they are not '' T shows the Ss seven pictures of free time activities and elicits the TL (Go out, Stay in, Go to the cinema, Go to concerts, Go shopping, Phone the family, Do sports) Then, he shows a collage of the seven pictures and asks Ss "When do we do these things? Do we do them during the week? Do we do them when we are busy? Do we enjoy doing them?" Ss produce the TL "free time, weekend activities,"

Pre-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T: "I will give these handouts, they are folded, do not open them. we have these sentences here and the words up here. what are you doing?" Ss "fill in the gaps" T "Are you working together or alone? - alone, will you unfold the paper? - No" T sets the time (two minutes) and gives them the HOs. T writes the sentences on WB, stops the activity and asks Ss to check their answers with their groups. T elicits the answers and writes them on the board. T marks the intonation of the phrasal verbs and drills Ss pronunciation. T "unfold the paper, we have six pictures. How many sentences are there in ex A - "twelve", look t the picture and choose the correct sentence. Are you working alone or in pairs? - "In pairs" T assigns pairs and times the activity (one minute) T monitors, Ss finish, T elicits the answers and takes W/C FB.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T shows the picture of Robert and Tanya "Who are they?- colleagues where are they? - at work, do you think they are good friends? - yes, how do you know that? - smiling/having fun" T plays the clip, Ss write the answers, T "check your answers with your group" Ss peer check, T writes the sentences on the WB, elicits the ans then drills the pronunciation of (do) through back-chaining. T plays the clip again for Ss to focus on how to pronounce (do) in the questions.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T: We will listen to another clip, go to ex 4 A, we have five sentences about Robert and Tanya, listen to the clip and put a True or False in front of the sentence. Are we doing ex B? - No, Are we working together or alone? - alone T plays the clip, Ss listen and write, T may play the clip again. T "check your answers in your groups." T assigns groups and monitors for correct use of TL. T takes W/C FB and elicits the answers. T "Who was asking who in the clip? was Tanya asking Robert? - no, Robert was asking Tanya. Listen to the clip again and circle Tanya's answers. Are you working alone or in groups? - in groups." T plays the clip, Ss circle the answers, T elicits the answers and takes W/C FB

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T: "go back to exercise 1, Write 5 questions using these phrases. For example, do you ........... in the evenings/at the weekends? are you working alone or in pairs? - in pairs." Ss write the questions, T monitors and checks Ss are on task and using the TL. T "now, I want you all to stand up, ask the five questions to five different Ss and write the answers." T asks two Ss to demo the activity. T asks some ICQ questions. "are you asking one person only? do ask the same question?" Ss mingle, T monitors and (if needed) writes some incorrect questions and elicits the corrections.
