Copy of Somebody, Anybody, Nobody, Everybody/ Speaking
Intermediate level

Description

In this lesson, students learn about somebody, anybody, nobody and everybody through a TTT Lesson Plan. The lesson starts making sentences with the TL in the context of Usual/Unusual things/habits. They talk to their partners about their families. They then carry on with doing the first exercise. The third stage of this lesson is to teach them the TL by using the WB, giving sample sentences and asking CCQ, They then do another exercise to practise what they've learned and the lesson finishes with a speaking activity where ss have to mingle and ask questions to each other for the purpose of reporting back to the class by using the TL.

Main Aims

  • The aim of my lesson is to test students' knowledge about indefinite pronouns and teach them the correct use of the TL through TTT aproach.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To improve students' productive skills (speaking) by leading them to do some free speaking activities.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Refer to previous lesson and remind them how they talked about usual and unusal things. -Make three sentences with somebody, everybody and nobody about my family in the context of usual/unusual things/habits. Somebody in my family is a sleepwalker Everybody in my family likes to drink raki. Nobody has a weird haircut in my family. -Ask the WC to think about the people in their families and tell them to make sentences by using the TL. -They should then speak to their partners about it for two minutes. -Monitor sts closely without taking any part in the conversations and note their mistakes to review it later. -Ask some students randomly to give feedback about their partners.

Test #1 (6-8 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

-Students do ex. 1(Grammar Section) on page 49 individually. -Write 4 rules of the TL on the board while they are doing the exercise -Get students' attention to the rules on the WB before checking the answers(ex.1) with the whole class.

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

-Ask students if they know the name for the TL; write it on the board. -Students choose the correct pronoun to complete the blanks. Do this with the WC. Make quick sentences for ss but don't check the meaning yet. -Go back to the ex.1 and tell them to review their answers with their partners. Ask students to explain why they made their choices, grammatically(ask them to refer back to the rules.) -Check the meaning of each pronoun 1. Everybody looked the same. CCQ= Is there anybody who looked different? No Did every person look the same? Yes 2.Nobody is perfectly average man. CCQ= Is there anybody who is perfectly an avarege man? No Does a perfectly average man exist? No 3. This is so easy that anybody could do it. CCQ= Do I refer to a spesific person? no Does it matter who could do it? No 4. Can somebody help me please? CCQ= Is it important who can help me? No Do I expect at least one person to help me? Yes -Write students mistakes on the board from the previous stage and ask them to fix it.(or else write a couple of sentences on the board with plural verbs) They probably won't be clear about using singular or plural verbs. Tell them through their mistakes(or through the sentences on the WB) that these indefinite pronouns take singular verbs eg. Are everybody here? (Is) Everybody in my family like to drink (s) raki. -Also mention that anyone, someone, no-one and everyone has got same meaning as anybody, somebody, nobody and everybody.

Test #2 (6-8 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Students do ex.2(grammar section) on page 49 and check/compare their ideas in pairs. -Do one or two examples for the WC -Ask students to give feedback, one student speaks and the WC listens.

Free practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Mingle activity -Give students the HOs of the game and give instructions. -Students go around the class and ask other sts the questions they have in their hands. They'll take notes and report back to the class by using the TL -Ask some ICQ eg. Are you going to talk to only one person? No Are you going to try to talk to everybody? Yes Are you going to take notes? Yes
