W7 Speaking June 25 - Wednesday
A1-B1 Vets Gen2 level
Description
Main Aims
-
Use zero and first conditionals to describe risks, consequences, and advice
Subsidiary Aims
-
Practice fluency and spontaneous interaction in a veterinary support context
Procedure (82-90 minutes)
Procedure: Whole class seated in a circle. One student starts: If a cat scratches you, then you should disinfect the wound. The next student must continue: If you disinfect the wound, then it won’t get infected. Keep going until students begin repeating or running out of ideas. Instructor boards 3–4 good examples using correct structures.
Procedure: Students receive cards: one side has a clinic-related problem, the other a possible conditional solution. Examples: Problem: The owner forgets the instructions. Solution: If they forget, the dog won’t get better. Once matched, pairs: Rewrite 2 using zero conditional Rewrite 2 using first conditional Then read aloud to check fluency and logic.
Task 1 Procedure: Students receive a list of common veterinary risks or mistakes (e.g., missed vaccinations, bad diet, lack of hygiene). In small groups, they must: Choose 3 and write 2 zero and 2 first conditionals for each (e.g., If you don’t brush their teeth, they will develop infections) Each group presents 1 case to the class using 3 conditionals aloud. Task 2 Procedure: Pairs invent their own veterinary scenario (problem + context), then create 3 conditionals to explain or solve it. Examples: If the dog eats plastic, he might choke If you follow the vet’s instructions, the recovery will be faster Pairs post their mini-scenario on the board and classmates walk around reading others.
Procedure: Students write: One zero conditional they used today One first conditional they want to remember Instructor reviews 2–3 examples on the board and elicits reformulations or corrections from the class.
