Procedure (50-60 minutes)
Procedure: Write on the board: What should a vet assistant do in an emergency? Students brainstorm and list key actions: Stay calm Apply pressure Call the vet Monitor breathing Prompt for conditional rephrasing: If the pet is bleeding, apply pressure If the owner panics, the situation could get worse
Material: Audio Clip – Emergency phone call to a clinic Task: Students listen and answer two gist comprehension questions: What is the emergency? What does the vet recommend? Brief pair check and full-class discussion. Instructor boards key phrases.
Play the audio again. Students complete a worksheet with missing zero/first conditional sentences. Example: If the bleeding doesn’t stop, _____ If you don’t have gloves, _____ After completing the worksheet, check answers in pairs or as a class.
Procedure: In pairs, one student plays the worried client, the other the vet assistant. They summarize the audio using conditional structures. Switch roles after 2–3 minutes. Encourage phrases like: If it happens again, bring the pet immediately If she’s still shaking, keep her warm
Procedure: Instructor highlights 2–3 common mistakes heard during pair work and models corrected versions on the board. Students repeat and clarify grammar patterns.
