Main Aims

  • To give Ss controlled practice of family vocab, possessive 's & have/has got

Subsidiary Aims

  • Integrated skills - reading, listening & speaking

Procedure

Lead-in (Pre task) (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows a picture of a family and establishes context to recall the vocabularies that were already introduced in the previous lessons by asking students to discuss who they see in picture. T shows the family tree on p. 119- explain who Molly & Steve are.

information gap task (15-29 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

-T divides the class into two groups by arranging the seats into enemy corners form - A & B. -Next, T explains task by displaying the worksheet on the screen, and asks them to read the information & write the names of Molly and Steve's family onto the family tree. Within the groups, Ss are put in pairs. T gives group A worksheet A, & group B worksheet B. Ss work in pairs to put the names onto the tree. Then, T gets the pairs to check with other pairs from the same groups. T monitors carefully to ensure both groups have got their ans correct. Later on, T gets the Ss to notice that they only have half the tree complete. T elicits a few useful questions - e.g. Who's Molly's father?- T takes back worksheets A & B. Subsequently, Ss are regrouped into pairs A & B once more in Face to Face positions in order to complete the tree. In the last phase, Ss can check and compare their trees together.

Post Task and Feedback (if time) (6-8 minutes) • to give them the chance of free practice

Ss can work in pairs to make sentences ask question about their family. T can put some of incorrect sentences on the WB & get the Ss to correct them.
