Description

In this lesson, students will talk about possessions by using "have/has got." They will form yes/no questions and reply to them with simple answers. They will do some fill in the gap exercises and use the phrase to form sentences about themselves and their partners.

Main Aims

  • To introduce and give practice in "have/has got" yes/no questions and short answers through the context of talking about personal possessions.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will refer back to the previous lesson and elicit some of the questions the students heard on the listening , e.g. Have you got a computer? w/c FB will be given with some error correction methods.

Pre-lesson exercise (5-8 minutes) • To refresh Ss memory and encourage them to use the learned vocabulary

T gives Ss some open class practice of the TL -asking and answering different questions- by prompting in item e.g. radio and assigning two students to ask and answer the following question, Have you got a radio? Yes, I have./ No, I haven't.

Question formation activity (6-10 minutes) • To show students how to form Question using "Have/has got"

T Assigns groups and asks Ss to work together and rewrite the questions in ex a. then, the teacher gets w/c FB. After that, he refers Ss back to the chart from the previous lesson (WkBk ex 4) and gets Ss to ask the qus and ans them and write the short answers in b. check answers by getting Ss to ask and ans qus open class.

Demo activity (8-12 minutes) • To promote GW and the use of the target language

T shows students how to do a Find someone who.. Activity and gives them one of HO either pp105 or 113 (split around the class about 50/50). Ss mingle. The teacher monitors for good use of the TL and makes sure that students are talking to more than one person. When they finish or the times is up,T gets all Ss to sit down and takes some FB - e.g. Whos got a computer?

Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T elicits the word twins and asks if twins have usually got the same things. He sets up a PW activity for Ts Bk p 140. The teacher introduces the characters and makes sure they know how to pronounce the names and that they know that Harry is a boy and Harriet is a girl. T explains how many differences there are and demos the activity. Ss work together to ask and ans qus.

FB and general error correction (5-8 minutes) • To concept check further and correct some of the key mistakes

T gets feedback on what different items the twins have got and encouraging Ss to make sentences using the target language.
