Letter L - lesson 2
A1 - grade 2 level

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a phonics focus in the context of the ''Look, look, look'' story

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of words starting with "L" in the context of the Look, look, look story.

Procedure

Review • consolidate the previous lessons TL

Elicit the TL from the ss and give out points for good answers.

Warmer/Lead-in (10-12 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Start by playing the storybots video. Ask them afterwards which letter will be the subject of the present lesson. Ask the ss right away what words they picked up from the video, and write them on the BB. Play the video twice if needed. Play the nursery tracks video to have them try and recollect what they can. Repeat the same process on the BB.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

The story is presented to ss with or without the recording. Roles might have been used in the previous lesson. The T teacher might act out story to make it interesting. The T may also have a very good st read the story out.

Highlighting and Clarification (5-7 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Go slowly through the ppt. Drill pronunciation and ask CCQs. Focus on spelling by doing a jumping jack routine and\or associating each vocabulary element with a unique gesture. Take every opportunity to tie it with the context story. Put an emphasis on the words ''lion" and "lamb" and on the sentence: "The lizard is looking at a lamb", so that the ss can read and pronounce them correctly.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • to verify and ensure ss' ability with regards to the TL

A word is shown to a st which then has to read it out loud, and then gets the opportunity for extra points by throwing a ball at the corresponding picture.

Woksheet (5-7 minutes) • Bring ss' attention to the target sentence

The ss draw in the pictures of a lizard and a lamb which are imbedded in the target sentence. On the backside of the sentence ss write the missing letter and may color in the words represented by the pictures.

Extra (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with further exposure to the target language
