Procedure (84-90 minutes)
Procedure: Distribute cards with silly or dangerous pieces of advice (e.g., If your dog eats glass, give it popcorn). Students walk around the room finding a partner and: Read their card Their partner must correct it using a proper conditional Example: Card: If your cat is stressed, play loud music. Correction: If your cat is stressed, you should turn off the noise.
Task 1 – Bamboozled: Conditionals Review Game Procedure: Bamboozled with conditional-based questions Task 2 – Chain Reaction Story Game Procedure: In groups of 4, students tell a chain story using first conditionals only. One person starts: If the owner forgets the appointment, the dog will miss his shot. The next adds: If he misses the shot, he will get sick. …And so on. After 5–6 rounds, they write down the chain and share it with another group. Task 3 – Dice Challenge: What If Clinic Edition Procedure: Students roll a die and get a sentence starter (based on number rolled): 1 – If the client yells… 2 – If a dog faints… 3 – If the medicine runs out… 4 – If the assistant is late… 5 – If the power goes out… 6 – If you forget the schedule… Each student must respond with a first conditional sentence, and their group votes if it makes sense.
Procedure: Students write: One zero conditional they used today One first conditional they learned or liked One second conditional they remember Then they trade with two classmates and comment on each other’s sentences. Instructor ends with 2 strong examples on the board.
