Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Activity: Flashcard Modals & WH Review Procedure: Use flashcards with prompts (modals on one side, WH-clauses on the other). Call out examples, and students must complete the sentence aloud. Example modal: should → You should… Example WH-clause starter: Tell me what… → Tell me what he needs.

Productive Task(s) (58-60 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Play a competitive game show-style activity (like Family Feud) split into two rounds: Round 1: Modal Usage – Questions include guessing advice or obligations (e.g., What should you do if a dog won’t eat?) Round 2: WH-Clause Statements – Students reformulate statements into embedded WH-clauses (e.g., “Where is the vet?” → I don’t know where the vet is.)

Productive Task(s) (13-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Procedure: In pairs, students receive 3 prompts involving advice, questions, or uncertainty. Each prompt requires one response with a modal, and one using a WH-clause.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

One - on - one feedback for the speaking activity Monitor Task 2 and write 4–5 real examples on the board. In small groups, students: Identify which use a modal or a WH-clause Improve any unclear or incorrect examples Wrap up with whole-class review and pronunciation of tricky forms (e.g., where she is, how it works).
