Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, practice, and possible review of so/such... that structures in the context of extreme situations.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide detailed listening practice in the context of a radio talk show about accidents in the kitchen


Test #1 (6-8 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

The teacher gives the students their HOs and they will work individually to answer the questions. The teacher will monitor in the meantime. They will check their answers with their partners after finishing.

Teach#1 (exposure flexi-stage) (7-8 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

(If they do poorly in the test) -The students will do two detailed listening activities (exercise 11 and 12) and discuss their answers in pairs after finishing each. The teacher will monitor and give feedback when necessary. -The audioscript will be given to them afterwards to save time and avoid lengthy WCFB. they will discuss it in groups of 3 or 4. (If they do quite good in the test the above part might be skipped)

Teach #2 (5-10 minutes) • To held students discover the meaning and form of the TL through a guided discovery task

- The students will be given the GD HOs and asked to complete it based on the language in the audioscript. They will then have to mingle and find the answer to all questions from their classmates. - The teacher will answer any remaining questions in WCFB.

Test #2 (5-8 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

The students will be given the second practice handout and will be asked to do exercise 9 on it individually. The teacher will monitor closely to see how well they do in the test compared to the first one. They will check their answers in pairs and then in groups. -The teacher will write the answers on the board and answer any questions.

Free practice (10-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The teacher will ask them to look at the next exercise on the handout and talk with each other in groups of 3 or 4. The exercise gives them different topics which they can talk about using the TL. The teacher will monitor and give feedback if needed.
