In this lesson students try to understand people talking about their vacations through listening. The lesson starts with the visuals of places that will be discussed later. Then they have a gist listening and a detailed listening. They try to to match the sentences with the places. They have freer activities to use the language.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, specific information and detailed listening practice using a text about travelling different countries in the context of travel

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of travel


Warmer/Lead-in (4-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will write travel and name of some famous cities T will show photos about travelling Ask them to where they went on their last holiday in pairs. ICQs ( Elicit some ideas.

Pre-Reading/Listening (6-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T will show the photos of places that will be mentioned through the listening. Asks the question 'What can you do in this places?' ICQs/Is it about me? No/ Is it a dream? Yes Talk in pairs and WCF

Gist Listening (8-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T will expain that while they are listening they will find the answers to the questions. ICQs/How many questions? Two/body language show reading fast/Write? No/Demo on WB Answer alone When Ss finish check the answers with their partners. WHF T will write on WB

While-Reading/Listening #2 (10-13 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T will explain that Ss match the sentences with the places. Answer alone. Check in Pairs. WCF. ICQs/ How many sentences? 6/ True False? No/ Alone or with a partner? Alone/Body language show reading for detail/ Write sentences on WB. CCQs WCF Meaning will be cleared. Form and Pronunciation will be cleared. The sentences will be drilled.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss will be asked to tell their best holiday to their friends without telling the name of the place. Then they will guess the name of the place. Ss will learn at least about three person. ICQs/Is it about something we like? Do we say the name of the place?No/ Our friend knows the place?

If-time activity (4-6 minutes) • T o practice speaking

Ss will choose one of the places in the photos and describe what can be done there.
