Main Aims

  • To provide review and practice of be used to/get used to in the context of living in another country.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a letter to a friend in the context of living in another country.

Procedure

Test #1 (7-8 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

-T says 'By yourselves, you will answer these questions about the reading you just read.' -Ss read indiv. -T monitors -T 'compare your answers with your partner -PW

Teach (10-15 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

If Ss pass the exam then T will focus on those parts in MFP that Ss dont quite get -If Meaning: T will ask CCQ's -IF Form: T will pass chart for Ss to fill out -PW check and then AnsKey -If Pronunciation: T will drill specific pronunciation using WB and WC drill

Test #2 (7-8 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

-T "these are Marcus and Erin. They are living overseas in Japan and Iceland. In Pairs, talk about what you know about Japan and Iceland?" -PW: Ss talk -T 'by yourselves fill out these sentences and decide if it talks about Erin or Marcus" -Indiv work -T "check in Pairs" -Ss PW -T shows AnsKey

Semi-Controlled practice (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with a semi-controlled practice of the TL and preparation for the Final Stage

-T "Now, imagine you have gone overseas. You have been living in China for 2 years. In pairs, talk about what is different between China and Istanbul." -Ss talk in Pairs -T "Now write four sentences about your new life using be used to and get used to. -Ss write -T "Compare in Pairs, are any the same?" -Ss compare PW

Free practice (6-7 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-T "Now, you haven't seen your family for those 2 years, and you just received a letter from them. They want to know how you are doing. Did you like it? What do you do? You have 5 mins to write a letter to them." -Ss write a letter to their families.

Freer practice Speaking (8-9 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-T "Now, you finished your time in China. You are back in Istanbul. One Ss will be the friend/mother/brother and the other is the person returning. Talk about what how your time in China was like. Share with them about your life in China." -Ss talk for 4 mins -T "Now switch roles" -Ss talk for another 4 mins.

FeedBack (3-4 minutes) • to collect feedback from freer practice

-T collects the errors heard during the freer practice
