Description

In this lesson students will listen to a conversation between two friends about a place they visited. Ss will practice and also try to use these question forms in the context of a place they visited through out a speaking practice.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To give ss practice in listening for specific information in the context of visiting a place .

Subsidiary Aims

  • To give sts freer speaking practice and review question forms of simple past tense related to visiting a place.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will personalize the context. T will hang some pictures of a place she visited before. T will ask ss about the pictures? (Where did I go?/ Who did I go with?/ What did I do there?)

Pre-Listening (6-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T will chest HO of matching activity. Instructions: -Find more questions about a visit to Barcelona. -Use Wh questions -There are questions on this paper. -You fill in the blanks with where, who, when or what (T will write them on WB.) - For example: ……....did you go? what is the question? - Work alone first. - Then check with your pairs. ICQ: Do you answer the questions? NO ICQ: Do you use these forms of questions? YES (showing on WB) Monitoring and error checking. WCF (Focus on What was it like?= Was it good, bad, interesting?)

While Listening (Gist) (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T will chest HO-2 including 4 questions from the listening. Instructions: -Let's listen to Alejandro's visit. -There are 3 questions on this page -You have 2 minutes to answer. -You listen once! -Write sentences not only words.(For ex: Where did Alejandro go? He went to London.) -Check with your partner. ICQ: Do we listen once? YES WCF

While-Listening (Detailed Listening) (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Teacher will chest HO-3 including T/F questions. Instructions: -Let's listen to his visit to London once more and get more ideas. -Try to find which is true or false from the listening. -Work alone. -Check with your pairs. T will play the audio twice. Monitoring and error checking WCF and justification of the answers.

Post Listening-Free Practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T will change SS seats.(give number to each and pair them.) Instructions: -Tell your friend 4-5 words about a place you visited. -Your friend tries to find the questions.(use wh questions) -Then change turns. -Make a demo with a student.(Abant, last christmas, very cold, my family) ICQ: Do you ask a question first? NO ICQ: Do you try to find the question? YES Monitor and error checking. WCF(If needed correct the wh forms on WB)
