Teaching Practice 7
Upper Intermediate level

Description

In this lesson, students will learn the relative clauses with the focus on the connector and learn when to use them in the context of lie. First they will answer two personal questions about lie. Then they will be tested. They will probably pass the test. After that, they will peer-teach each other. We will have a little clarification over the problems in the test, then they will have a controlled practice. At the end they will talk about lie trying to use the taught grammar.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide practice and clarification of adjective clauses in the context of lie

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of lie

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher will put three questions on the and ask students to talk about it in pair to set the context of the lesson: 1) Do you lie? 2) In what situations do you lie? 3) Are you a big liar?

Test 1 (8-12 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Teacher will give students a test about adjective clause in which they have to put a connector in the write sentence. They can see the answer key at the bottom of the page. They will check their answers. Teacher will act towards the test result. If most of the students answer the questions wrong, teacher will clarify the grammar and answers, but if they answer correctly, they will be told to stand up and find a person who has answered correctly, ask them to explain the reason and check the statement if they understand it. They must ask everybody until they find a person to explain it to them. At the end, teacher will read the number and students should raise their hands if they have checked the sentence. If there is a sentence which nobody has checked, teacher will clarify it

Teach (8-12 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

Teacher will put students in groups of three, give each group a sheet of paper containing a matching practice. They have to match each connector with the correct definition as fast as they can. The winner group will come to the board and do the same with the big ones. Then the teacher will ask students to explain the difficult parts in the class.

Test 2 (Controlled Practice) (5-7 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

If teacher finds out students still have some difficulties in the target language and have enough time for the last stage, he will give them the second test to check understanding of the grammar. This exercise is similar to the first one. They will do it individually, look at the answer key and check them in pair.

Free practice (5-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Teacher will show students three picture with a sentence above each that are about the situations people lie in their daily life. Put them in pairs and tell them to discuss about it and hope they use the taught grammar in it. Teacher will monitor and write the errors on the board to check them with students after the discussion.
