Description

In this lesson the students are going to practice receptive skills (listening).The unfamiliar vocabulary will be provided. The students will listen to 4 people talk about mysterious experiences they had. First they are going to listen for gist,than they are going to listen for details. After listening the students are going to answer the questions. After the listening part we are going to practice use of fillers and repetition in speaking. The students are going to complite Language Focus ex, After that I'll model sentences from that ex and then drill them. After that students are going to work in 3 groups and discuss any mysterious experience that they had in their life. Than each group will tell the story to the rest of the class.

Main Aims

  • To give the students practice in listening for gist,specific information and detail.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To raise the students awareness of pause fillers and repetion. To give the students practice in speaking for fluency in the context of mysterious experience sounding natural by using fillers and repetion.

Procedure

Warmer/ Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • to engage the students

1).I will start the lesson with a story that I've read in a newspaper to introduce the context.2). I will ask the students if they've ever heard something like that?3). I'll ask the students to look at the list of myesterious expreiences on the hangout.4).I'll ask if they've ever heard of these things before. We'll discuss it a little.

Pre-listening task (3-5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form, and pronunciation of the target language

1).I will show the students the slide on the projector with TL(the vocabulary they may not be familiar with,but which they'll need while listening). 2).The students will have to match each word with it's meaning.

Semi-Controlled Practice (5-10 minutes) • to give the Students practice in listening for gist

1) I'll explain the first task to the Students.2).They'll listen to 4 people talk about their mysterious experience.3). The students are going to match each speaker to one of the expreiences listed in the list from the warm up excerices.4). They are going to check their answers in pairs.5).After that we'll have a short feedback all together.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-14 minutes) • to practice listening for details

1).The students are going to listen to the record once again, but this time the students will have to listen carefully to be able to answer questions in ex.2,pg.51.2). Before listening I'll encourage the students to read through the task carefully.3). After listening the students are going to check answers in pairs.4). We'll have a short feedback together.

Guided practice (7-10 minutes) • to raise the Students awareness of pause fillers and repetition.

1).I'll ask students if they noticed anything special about the speech of each speaker? I'll point out that not everyone speaks perfect English all the time,not even native speaker.2).The studetns are going to do the "Language Focus" task, they will match the begining of sentences with the end. 3). After they finish the task i'm going to model each sentence,and the students will repeat after me.

Productive Task (8-10 minutes) • to practice speaking for fluency in the context of mysterious exprience sounding natural by using fillers and repetion.

1).I will ask the students to work in 3 groups (group 1,2,3). 2).The students will discuss any mysterious expreience they had in their life. 3).For their help i'll write down some questions on the board(when did it happen,who was their,why it was mysterious?) I'll encourage students to use TL more( fillers like "anyway,like,you know...") 4).After the discussion each group will tell their mysterious story to the rest of the class.
