Description

In this lesson, ss will learn some expressions of adjectives such as a long/ a short/ an interesting/ a boring/ a bad/ a good… book. They will recognise and practice these expressions in different activities. In closing stage they will discuss about the places they know and practice TL that they are introduced.

Main Aims

  • To provide review and practice of lexical set in the context of a bookshop and a cafe visit.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of adjectives such as good, very good, quite good, terrible through out a discussion about a place.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will elicit the words: bookshop, interesting, boring by visuals. Ss will imagine as they are sitting in a bookshop's cafe. ICQ: Are you in ITI?no ICQ: Are you in the bookshop's cafe now?yes ICQ: What are you doing here? Reading and drinking. There will be a role play. Different books will be on the table. They will act as if they are reading and drinking coffee.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T will elicit the adjectives for different books on the table. Ss will have a quick look at the books. T will ask "How is this book?" Ss will work alone and then PW. ICQ: Are you reading the books? NO ICQ: Choose adjectives from the HO? YES Monitoring and error checking. WCF

Clarification (6-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Elicit the words from Ss by miming&gestures&CQs Meaning of adjectives:(which they don't know) quite good, wonderful, terrible.. quite long book CQs: Is it very long?NO CQs: Is it short? No terrible book CQs: Is the book very bad? yes CQs: Do I like the book?No wonderful book CQs: Do I like the book too much?Yes Pronunciation: Drill the new words. Writing on the board.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T will write on WB (a book or film?, a cafe?, a restaurant?) T will chest the HO-2 "you like to read books? you like to go to a cafe?" "Let's see which is short? Which is good?""The books, restaurant or cafe?" Ss will try to find what the sentences are about. ICQ: a short cafe?No ICQ: a boring restaurant?No ICQ: an expensive restaurant?Yes First alone PW Monitoring and error checking. WCF

Semi-Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T will chest HO3. T: You have emojis on whatsapp (phone). Why do you use them? Ss will try to order the adjectives/make a list from terrible to wonderful.(matching emoji) ICQ: Do we write? yes ICQ: Do we write only one adjective for each? Yes PW WCF on WB.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T will ask if everybody knows Cevahir? Ss will discuss what is good or what is bad in Cevahir (restaurants, bookshops, cinema..?) using adjectives Ss will be 3 or 4 in a group. Ss will write the ideas on a paper. ICQ: Do we talk about Akmerkez? ICQ: Do we write? ICQ: Can we say 'the cinema is quite big in Cevahir?' yes Monitor and error checking FB- SS sharing the ideas with other groups.
