Description

In this lesson, the students have a chance to practice on the past forms they learnt from the previous slot. Secondly, they organize their ideas in groups. Thirdly, they write their first draft and edit their pair's writing. Then, the students write their final versions of the stories. Finally, they are asked to nominate the best one.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To give students practice in writing a mystery story implementing the target language.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To give students the opportunity to practice the past simple, perfect and perfect continuous in the context of mysterious story.

Procedure

Lead-in (5-6 minutes) • To activate the student's background information using TL

- Get the students interested by chatting on the related topic and journey. - Show a picture of a dark road and stick it in the middle of the board. - Ask students to work in groups and generate ideas about what strange things may happen on a journey.

Planning (14-15 minutes) • To get the students ready for writing

-Get some ideas from the students about the picture. - Write them on the board by brainstorming. - Focus on the useful and emergent language. - Write the useful vocabulary on the board. - Make the students repeat the useful vocabulary. -Give the students handouts. -Ask them to discuss the answers of the questions in groups of 2-3.

Drafting (7-8 minutes) • To make students write the first draft

- Ask the students to write the first draft -Monitor them - Make them pairs to check each other's draft after they finish.

Writing (13-14 minutes) • To make the students write their final draft

-Students write their final draft after they get feedback from their pairs. - Collect the students' papers and stick them on the wall after they finish writing the final version.

Post-writing (2-3 minutes) • To get the final comment about topic

- Ask students to nominate the most interesting story - Ask students to do an oral production for an extra activity
