After this we will have a reading practice and students will have to correct mistakes in the text (interview). They will check their answers by listening to the interview. After we will move to speaking activity trying to find out if students know some men with preferences, that interviewed guys have. To finish the lesson and relax students will work in pairs and answer questions from the interview.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide review of verb+verb-ing form in the context of shopping

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information listening and reading practice using an interview about shopping in the context of shopping

Procedure

Warming up, lead-in discussion (2-3 minutes) • To engage students, to make them interested in our lesson.

Set the room. On the window we will have book shops, on the door - supermarkets, on the wall - clothes shop. Print names of Turkish famous brands, cut them, throw on the floor and ask students to find them. Demo how to do it.

Vocabulary drilling/ concept checking (1-2 minutes) • To find out if students know words from the 1st exercise.

Print words that students can not to know and put them on the whiteboard. Draw a hate-love line on the desk, ask students one by one to come and put words on the like where they think it can be.

Prepairing for the grammar part (8-10 minutes) • Creating the basis (related to the topic of our lesson) for the grammar part

Give copies and set pairs for the first activity by giving to every student half of the picture. They should stand up and find who has the second half of his or her picture ( pictures related to shopping). Instructions: -Now we will work in pairs. -I will give you half of the picture ( show it) and you should find quickly who has the second half. Your partner will have will have second half of your picture ( show second half). ICQ: - So are we looking for partners? -Are we doing it quickly? After students find their pairs and sits present the first exercise. They should finish it in max. 2 minutes. Instr.: -Look at the first exercise ( show it). -Read these sentences and together with your partner choose which sentences are about men and which are about women. - So, write men or women in these empty places. ICQ: -Are you going to work alone? -Will you write men or women here? Students start to work. It will take about 2 min. When they finish, ask to underline all verbs in the sentences. Instructions: -Now, look at these sentences and underline ( show it) all verbs. ( Demo: for example, in the first one, what do we underline?) ICQ: -Do we underline all words? -Are we choosing only verbs? It should take about 2 min.

Grammar focuse (5-7 minutes) • Revise verb+verb-ing structure.

As we are just revising, not learning new grammar, we should not spend too much time on this. Pay attention to underlined sentences, check students` answers by asking how many verbs we can see in every sentence. Ask to name first verbs ( write them), ask to name second verbs ( write them and underline -ing). Drill the explaination: if in the sentence we use such verbs and phrases as ... and then we need another verb, we are adding -ing. Checking: -After which verbs we use another verb with -ing?

Reading (4-5 minutes) • Reading for specific information.

This time pairs are set in the reverse order ( or if the number of students is even, they should sit as they were sitting in the beginning of the lesson) so they will have different partners.Ask students to read the interview together with their partners, they need to find 12 mistakes. there will be 12 sentences where the second verb doesn`t have -ing. They don`t need to read carefully, just to find mistakes. Mistakes will be corrected by listening to the record. They will have about 2-3 min for this reading. Instruction: -Read these questions and answers of Russell and Billy. Sentences have mistakes (show). -Try to find them and make sentences correct. ( Demo)

Listening (5-7 minutes) • Listening for specific information

To check answers we will listen to the record. We will do it 2 or 3 times. The record lasts almost 2 min. After the second or 3d time check answers and write them on the whiteboard. Check if someone didn`t understand this grammatical structure, drill if it is needed.

Speaking (7-10 minutes) • Semi-controlled speaking for practicing spoken accuracy

This is a short speaking in small groups about questions from the interview. Demo how to do it. Ask the group a few questions. This should help students to relax and practice their spoken accuracy. Each student MUST speak and have almost equal time to speak ( at least a few sentences) Ask: What do students like buying the most? Which shops do they prefer? Do they waste time going from one shop to another? Do they prefer buying clothes for themselves or they like buying things for their friends and relatives?
