Description

During this lesson, Ss will firstly focus on listening skill activities about a dialogue between a woman ,who works in a charity shop ,and her husband.( Answer the questions and Complete the sentences activities about the text) Ss will learn about some new vocabulary that's related to the text from the beginning to the end of the lesson.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification,review and practice of speciaized vocabulary that's related to the listening text

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T puts the enlarged photocopied picture about the listening text on WB to take Ss's attention to the context of the listening text . ( They'll be more keen on the grammatical structures, vocabulary and the theme of the text. within the help of visual materials.) T elicits Ss to have some idea about the women in the picture. e.g. what they do and talk about, their jobs,life,etc. T also puts some other pictures about charity shops around the world and ask Ss what they know about the charity shops, whether there is any charity shop or not in their country and if they ever buy anything from these shops or give charity shops anything they own that they no longer need.

Pre-Reading/Listening (5-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T puts some other pictures about charity shops around the world and displays some related realias about the context and allow Ss talk about how they might be related within the topic and ask Ss what they know about the charity shops, whether there is any charity shop or not in their country and if they ever buy anything from these shops or give charity shops anything they own that they no longer need.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (7-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T shows HOs that.'s related to the context about a conversation between a man and a woman and tells the sts that they'll listen Track 2.20 and then answer the questions. ( T has her ICQ here; T: Listening or Reading? Ss:(Listening) T: Which one is first? Listening or Writing? Ss: ( Listening first then Writing ) After listening ,T gives 3 minutes to the Ss to write their answers on their HOs and then check the answers in 3 or 4 groups. T has her ICQ again here; T: 3 or 4 minutes? Ss: 3 minutes. T: Alone or Together in groups? Ss: Together in 3 groups. After then T discusses the answers with the Ss.( Giving them also the right answers/ answer key) CCQs: Did the three visitors to her shop want a suitcase? /No. Did they ( 2 women at the shop) make Money from the coat?/ Yes. Was the coat refound?/ Yes.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (10-14 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T will highlight some new vocabulary in the text by writing and underlining them on WB and elicit Ss what these words mean and write the answers of the students on WB and then allow Ss discuss if the definitions are right or wrong (WC Activity) and then make the students listen again the Track 2.20 then work in pairs to complete the sentences and check each other. After then T discusses the completed sentences with the students whether they are right or wrong.

Post-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T writes down some questions about the text on WB and tells students discuss these questions in 3 or 4 groups for 4 mins. ''What do you think Moira said to her friend? ''Do you think the shop should return the money to the man who had left it in the pocket? After discussing these questions in groups , T allows the groups to speak aloud about their opinions. ( 4 mins.)
