Procedure (44-65 minutes)
T projects 4 pictures, ask the Ss to Pw discuss what do they see and what are they doing in the pictures. 1 min. In this session, Ss will be activating schemata related to shopping and the name of the products they see in the picture. The two questions will help them to focus and introduce them to the context of the lesson. WCFB, T gather some ideas.
T explain the activity, they will listen and decide which picture is it for each audio. WCFB to check the names of the objects they want to buy. Also ask them if is it one or more objects. Ss are going to pay attention to the audio and the objects mentioned in it. This will be helpful for them to understand if the noun is single or plural. WCFB will be done for each audio session.
T explain the exercises, the table fill, demo WB. 2 min. Ss will be concentrating in the exercise and deciding which object is singular or plural. The exercise will help them to understand when to use this or these. WCFB, S-WB.
T explain the exercise 2, that is to complete sentences. Here, T plays audio again, they fill in with what they heard. 2min. Check PW. In this exercise they will get familiar with the target language. Ss now will associate this with singular and these with plural according to what they hear in the audio. This will clarify the use of TL. WCFB, Project ex. WB.
With the sentences on the WB, T clarify the form (circles "s" at the end of the words and link it with these, CCQ, Do I use This with singular or plural? singular, and These, singular or plural? plural) and pronunciation of TL (writing the phoneme |ɪ| |iː| /s/ /z/ to clarify the differences and drilling). Here Ss will be presented to the written form of the TL that they just heard. They will check that they understood when to use each form, if singular or plural. Ss will practice pronunciation with the drilling exercise.
T explains exercise 3, write sentences with the objects given, demo WB. 5 min. Alone or PW? PW. Ss will be consolidating the information they heard by writing sentences using this and these. PW here will be goo for practice, as they will read to each other the sentences. This task will help them gather vocabulary for the semi-controlled practice, the final exercise. WCFB, S-T call out the answers.
T Explains ex.4 match columns. Project and demo WB. 1min. Alone or in pairs? alone. Here the Ss will be exposed to the questions they will use in the next task and already associate the questions with possible answers. This will prepare them to develop well the role-play. WCFB [S-WB] T leave the questions for a moment more on the WB.
T will explain the market stands and the role-play stages. Remember then of the questions form the previous exercise - WB. provide them with objects, prices and an amount of money to spend. Demo with a Ss. 10min. At this final stage of the lesson, Ss will be practising their productive skills, speaking. In this scenario for accuracy, as they have the questions and possible answers. This role-play is specially useful for our eager kinaesthetic learners, as they move around and interact. T monitor for possible errors, WCFB, check what some of them bought.
