Main Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a phonics focused lesson in the context of the "A big, big day" story

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about birthday in the context of the "A big, big day" story

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The storybots video is played again, to recall the its content, and it followed right away with the bounce patrol video, used to drill the 'I' sound. Could be played twice.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

The T goes right away to the story, and goes through it along with recording to set context. The T can follow this and quick reading of the story, highlight some difficult elements of meaning or pronunciation in the story.

Clarification (5-7 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

The WC (whole class) goes through the FC PPt again.

Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The TL words are further practice d with either the same game as last time or preferably the hangman game for the least well learned words.

Clarification (story) (8-10 minutes) • To practice pronunciation and clarify the meaning of the story

Go through the PPt. Hve the WC try to say the sentence. Model the sentences. Ask some CCQs. Have individual random ss to read the sentences. Have groups say the sentences out loud. If time allows it the game with the FCs at the back, but with the story WS.

Extra (5-15 minutes) • to complete the 2 lesson plans activities

If the WS hasn't been completed .... if the sesame street video hasn't been played... The other videos can also be replayed.

Review (3-4 minutes) • recall and consolidates the previous lesson's TL

Ask random ss what words they remember from the previous lesson. Qs about the story can optionally asked after. Good answers confer a point.
