Description

In this lesson, students will talk about their own pets or the ones they know in their neighborhood to warm up to the lesson. Students will listen to an interview about three people who are living with different pets with different characters and try to answer some questions.. They will try to personalize these characteristics also for people they know through out discussion.

Main Aims

  • To give students practise in listening for specific information in the context of an interview about special pet friends.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To review lexis related to pet characteristics and give ss freer speaking practice thorough a discussion.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students.

Ss will see a picture of me and my dog on the WB. Q: Do/Did you have a pet before? Name? Kind? Ss having pet or have had before will talk about those animals. On WB: Names of the animals. Any unusual pet?

Pre-Teach Vocabulary (2-4 minutes) • Try to clarify a few words that students need to know before reading and prepare them for the text.

Present some lexis On WB: Companion (close friend) Fond of (like so much) Unconditional (no expectation) Bond (good connection) Fed up with (getting bored of) Clarify the meaning in different ways Elicit answers and get ss understand the meaning.

Gist Listening (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks.

On WB: Probable names of pets in the interview. Ss wil try to match the people and their pets. First guess alone. Check in GW. Set the time for 2 minutes. ICQ: Are we matching the flower names? Monitoring WCF

Detailed Listening (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed listening task.

Ss will try to find out the pet characteristics mentioned in the text and tick them. PW 5 minutes given. ICQ: Is it true or false? or just tick what you listen to? Ss will be given a list of pet characteristics and work on it. Ss listen once. Monitoring. Projecting the statements on WB and WCF.

Detailed Listening-2 (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed listening task.

Ss will try to find and write the names beside mentioned these characteristics. PW 5 minutes given. ICQ: Can we use more than one name for the same characteristics? Ss listen once. Monitoring. Projecting the statements on WB and WCF.

Post Listening (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language.

Discussion of the characteristics in a pet and in a person. What do ss look for? Give some specific animal names to each group.(giraffe, lion, eagle, parrot, fish, spider) Make pairs of each group. Two from each group get together. 8 minutes Monitoring Quick WCF.
