Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about application in the context of resume

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of tense of the verbs in the context of CV

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I write a question on the board. Students are supposed to get in pairs and talk about it. I set the time, check ICQ and students will be monitored. Then I will elicit a few responses from students as a whole class feedback (WCFB).

Pre-Reading/Listening (2-4 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I will show a picture on the board with the video projector and then show a paper picture from the book on the board to set the context and students will talk about what they can see and what they can talk about.

Pre-Teaching Vocabulary (5-7 minutes) • To make the text more understandable for Ss

I will pre-teach some new words I think are necessary for understanding the text. I extract the words from the students by asking them indirect questions. I use the words in the sentence. Then I check CCQ. Students will repeat after me and then in groups and individually. Then I will put the word on the board and work more on the stress and syllables of the words.

While-Reading 1 (Gist) (1-2 minutes) • To skim the text for finding the answer of the gist question

i write a gist question on the board and ask the to skim through the text in a limited just to find the answer of my question and do not worry about any new vocabularies. I will set the time, check ICQ and give them handouts. After finishing, they will check their answers in pairs. I elicit the responses and take a whole class feedback.

While-Reading 2 (Detailed) (6-8 minutes) • To understand the text in detailes while reading

I show the exercise to them on the paper and instruct them to read the text again with enough time line by line and check if the sentences in the exercise are true or false individually. I will set the time and check ICQ. Students will be given the handouts. After finishing. they will check their answers together. Students will say the correct answers to the class and I will write the answers on the board by the help of early finishers or myself.

Vocabulary Practice (6-7 minutes) • To ensure that Ss know the concept of some needed words

I will regroup the partners. I show them the exercise and ask them to the examples of each number in the text and underline it with their new partner. They shouldn't open the paper. I set the time. I will check the ICQ. I will give them the handouts. After finishing, they can open the paper, check their answers with the answer key and whole class will talk about the reasons of the true answers and the expected problems .

Follow-Up (4-5 minutes) • To have their opinion about the text

I write this question: In your opinion, which was the most foolish thing to include in the CV. They have 30 seconds to think about it by using the book and then check their answers in group of three in the specific time. We will talk about answers with reasons to the class as a whole class feedback.

Post-Reading/Listening (5-7 minutes) • To personolize the text and using it in the real life

I will write on the board: What would you put in the personal interests section of your own CV. I set the time and ask them to write as many items as they can on a piece of paper. After the time is finished, they will stand up, move around and find a partner and compare their answers together. Then they will change their paper with their partner and talk to the class about partners' idea as a whole class feedback.
