Beginner level

Description

In this lesson, students will learn some collocations in the context of daily activities and hobbies and work on their pronunciation. They will also have to guess the words by listening to a related track. Ultimately, they will sit in a circle and talk about their personal life using the taught lessons from the first session.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a whole-class circle in the context of personal description

Procedure

Review (1-2 minutes) • To examine students' understanding of the previous lessons

The teacher will review the previous lessons to make sure they have the full perceptiveness and check their memory.

Warmer/Lead-in (3-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher will put four pictures of a boy doing daily activities. There is this question in front of each picture: What does he do? Students will be divided into pairs and have to discuss together and find the answers. Then teacher will write the answers on the board.

Lexical Clarification (8-12 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through matching handouts

Students are going a track of the vocabulary twice .Then the whole class will be divided into six groups of three. Each group will be given a bunch small papers with the vocabulary written on them separately. They should match the words together and make a phrase. The group which finishes first is asked to come to the board and stick the big-sized paper on the board. This activity is done to clarify the words in a more understandable way to the students, show the words that are used together and add more fun to class.

Controlled Practice (6-13 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

In this stage, students will get a True/False handout of six sentences using the collocations and words written on each one. They will be given the proper time to do the practice and then check the answers in pairs. Then the correct form of the false sentences will be written on the board by students.

Free Practice (8-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

To make a whole review of almost all the lessons taught so far, students will be given two to three minutes to write an introduction about themselves on a piece of paper and by the include their daily activities to use the words of this lesson and memorize it. Then they will sit in groups and each person will describe himself/herself to the other group members.
