Description

In this lesson, students will practice listening for gist and specific information in the context of paint-balling. They will also practice question forms in the context of the conversation they will have listened to (about paint-balling).

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about The sport of paintballing in the context of Three friends are having an argument about the sport of paintballing.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of question forms in the context of the argument about the sport of paintballing.

Procedure

lead-in (3-5 minutes) • to introduce the topic of the whole lesoon to the students

I will put the pictures of the paintballing on the white board. I will ask the students if they have any idea about this sport and how to play it. i will take about two minutes discussing with them their ideas

pre-listening (5-7 minutes) • to give chance to Ss to discuss what they know about the topic of the lesson

put Ss in pairs. show them the material. tel them they are going to discuss the questions in their pairs. tell them they have about three minutes. let them start. after they finish, ask few Ss about what they have discussed.

While-listening 1 (7-8 minutes) • To get the students practice listening for gist and specific information

show Ss the material. tell them they are going to do the first task. give them few seconds to read the sentences turn on the audio ask Ss about their answers

While-listening 2 (10-12 minutes) • To practice listening for specific information

tell Ss to look at the second task in the handout they have with them. tell them they are going to do the second task. give them a minute to read the sentences before listening. turn on the audio give Ss about a minute to fill in the gaps and discuss with a partner. turn on the audio again so they can make sure of the answers. take whole class feed back

grammar practice 1 (7-9 minutes) • to practice question forms

put students in different pairs show Ss the material tell them they are gong to do the first one give them example tell them they have 5 minutes to finish let them start monitor closely and help when needed

grammar practice 2 (7-10 minutes) • to practice question forms

tell Ss to work with the same partner show them the second task they have in the handouts with them tell them they are going to write questions from the prompts they have in the task. give them an example. tell them they have about 5 minutes monitor closely and help when needed after they finish get different pairs to peer check together
