Description

In this lesson students discuss their opinions about protesting. They will match the slogans and the causes then they will listen an interview with for people who are protesting an event. They will do a gist listening in order to match people with the slogans. Then they were given another controlled practice, a true false, made by the teacher. They do a fill in the blanks activity as the last controlled practice. Then they will discuss with their groups or partners\

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, specific information and detailed listening practice using a text about Global May day in the context of Protesting

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of people talking about what and why they are protesting in the context of protests

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T is going to use photos of specific demonstrations, mostly gezi. Ask questions to students about protests and tell them to discuss in pairs. (will be more specific about grouping)

Pre-Reading/Listening (4-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T is going to introduce the 1st activity. First explain by writing the headlines on the WB and make a demo, then give to the students. Ask the ICQs. Are we doing alone or in pairs, Are we writing or just matching. Tell them to do it alone then check with different pairs this time.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (8-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T is going to give the instructions for the T/F activity and give it to the students, then ask the ICQs. Are they all true, Are they all false. Start listening.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

The students will be asked to do the 2nd activity. The ICQs will be asked. Ask them to do alone and discuss the answers in pairs. Check the answers with the class. Then the CCQs will be asked.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Students will be asked to discuss the lexis after they change the groups. Then they will be asked to share with the class for feedback.
