Description

In this lesson, Ss will review time expressions 'for' and 'since' and their meanings. It will mostly be a guided discovery lesson in clarifying the language as Ss have seen this grammar before. Ss will have plenty of time to practice. Finally Ss will personalize the use of these time words and discuss about them.

Main Aims

  • To provide review of time expressions for and since in the context of Ibiza.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To give Ss freer speaking practice of TL about social places they visit in İstanbul.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will show picture of Antonio, Josh and Saskia from Ibiza radio programme. T will elicit the answers of questions: "How long have Antonia and Josh and Saskia been in Ibiza?" T will elicit the answers of the questions from Ss. T will write the answers on WB.

Clarification (10-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T will chest the flash cards Tell Ss to match them for SINCE and FOR. PW 5 minutes SS will try to complete the exercise with the right expressions. Monitoring(Errors may be) WCF T will draw the time line for SINCE and FOR for the examples: "Josh has been in Ibiza for nine-ten days"/since Tuesday-Wednesday(today is Friday) CCQ: Is John in Ibiza now? YES CCQ: Was John in Ibiza 2 weeks ago? NO CCQ:When did John arrive in Ibiza? 9-10 days ago. FORM-Model Sentences: Aff:"Saskia's been in Ibiza since 1997"/ for 18 years.(Year is 2015) Neg:Saskia hasn't been in Ibiza since 1997 Q:How long has Saskia been in Ibiza? Aff: "Antonio's been in Ibiza since 1995"/ for 20 years. Neg: Antonio hasn't been in Ibiza since 1995. Q: How long has Antonio been in Ibiza? CCQ: Was Saskia in Ibiza in 1996? No CCQ: Was Antonia in Ibiza in 1996? YES Prononciation: Highlight on the Affirmative(She's been…..) and Negative Form (She hasn't been…) Drill chorally

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T will give instructions about HO T will project the example on WB. T will tell Ss to check the example and try to do it in the same way. First alone PW Ss will try to do the exercises as mentioned in the activity. ICQ: Do you write sentences about yourself? YES Set time for 5 minutes Monitoring WCF

Free Practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T will write some places on WB (shops, restaurants, pubs, night clubs...) T will tell Ss to talk about the places they have been in İstanbul. T will give a number to each student and then set tables according to numbers.(If the class is not so crowded) PW Ss will ask and answer each other for different places they have been.
