Description

In this lesson,students will be exposed to vocabulary related to street features,ex : cafe,shop,church,mosque. etc. Also,to be able to talk about singular and plural. There will also be a grammar lesson about the difference between,there is and there are.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To introduce the and practice "there is and there are " in the context of places of towns.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To give students speaking practice of there is/there are.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will say I live in a town,then write town, is same as city,only smaller and mime it, in my street there are lots of shops,i live in a very busy street,there are a lot of people,and a lot of cars. There is only one mosque,make sure that I write there is and there are in a different color.

Clarification /controlled practice . (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning,form and pronunciation of the target language.

I will put the pictures on the WB in order of car,taxi,house,tree,cafe, bicycle,shop,mosque,flat/apartment,a person and church. and ask students to name them. I will write the name underneath the picture after the students had told me. I will go through each word that is on the board. I will ask students what is this ? pointing at a mosque,then say it's a ........mosque . Then I will handout the activity that include the change from singular to plural. show them how to fold paper,on the required side.

Clarification/controlled practice . (10-15 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will play the recording "1.45" That includes : "a car/cars" and practice saying the plural forms and go over them again. I will say in this classroom,there's a door,there's a chair,there are desks,there are students . write that on the board. I will play the recording "1.46" repeat if required,the recording or say sentences myself . Then ask students to work on the rest of the page in pairs .

Free Practice (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will say that the street is noisy with raising my voice a bit,then opposite quiet,with a very soft voice. write that on WB, The street is very busy, there are lot of cars,miming ,but it's really nice. the street is very quiet,there are old houses ,there are no cars. It's a beautiful street,there are a lot of trees. It's a noisy street,there are no cars,but there are always loud sounds. Ask students,where do you live ?They say i live in ....,i ask is it quite or noisy ? Is it busy,with a lot of people and cars ? play recording 1.47,then ask students to talk in pairs about the street they live in. Ask them to write 3 sentences about their street individually,then check with one another.
