Description

In this lesson students learn about verb+ -ing form through a guided dicovery based on a reading about shopping habits. First we start talking about current shopping habits. Then they do an exercise and complete the statements as pairs. We check the answers together and write them down. The reading text is explained and they were asked to find twelve mistakes. Then we listen to find the mistakes and check the answers. Then with a partner ask and anwer the questions in 3. If they are confused write on the board again explain.

Main Aims

  • To provide review and practice
  • To provide clarification, review and practice of verb+ -ing in the context of shopping

Subsidiary Aims

  • To give sts practise in reading and listening for specific information. To give sts semi-controlled speaking practise to develop spoken accuracy.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Stick the photos on the board and ask them to guess what they are.

Exposure (4-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Write and example on the board and give them the instructions for the gap filling activity

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Explain the form again and ask the students to give more examples.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Give the instructions for the reading text. They can do it alone or with their friends.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Before the listening give them the instructions and ask them to check with their friends.

Semi-Controlled Practice (4-7 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Check the answers together and explain again if necessary.

Free Practice (4-6 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Encourage the ss to use the new pattern and help them.
