In this lesson, students will be introduced to illnesses and symptoms vocabulary. They will have an activity to memorize the words. They will do a completion task. They will do a PW task

Main Aims

  • To review, extend knowledge of and give practice in vocabulary related to illness and symptoms,and to raise awareness of synonyms.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To give students the opportunity to practice spoken fluency, and to express opinions.


Warmer/ lead in (5-7 minutes) • to introduce the topic to the students

Play the Hangman game using the words temperature, pain, thrrobbing

Hot Potato game (10-12 minutes) • to help the Ss to know the vocabulary and memorize the words

the teacher will give each student apictur and tell them to check they know what it is by looking at the name on the back. students show the pictures to each other. Students should say what the illness is . if they don't know or are wrong they should be given the picture so they can learn it.

synonyms activity (10-12 minutes) • to help the student to understand the meaning of the new words

divide the student into groups of 3 . give them the instructions on how they will do. give them the material. set time to this activity. take feedback after they finish.

Completion task (10-15 minutes) • to help the students with understanding the new vocabulary

set students in pairs. give them the instructions . give them the handout . monitor and help if needed. after they finish, make sure they have answered correctly by having some students writing the answers on the board.

Pair work task (10-12 minutes) • To practice speaking about illness

set students into pairs. give them the instruction of what they should do. give them the handouts. monitor and help if needed.
