TEACHING PRACTICE 1
Upper Intermediate level

Description

In this lesson, students will be learning new Health Idioms and will be practicing them. At the end, they will play a game with word cards to practice the word they have learned during the lesson.

Main Aims

  • To introduce and give practice in idioms related to health

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice reading to deduce meaning from context. To give practice in spoken fluency.

Procedure

Warmer (5-8 minutes) • to set lesson context and engage students

T will give out a hand out folded into two and ask students not to open. Ss will try to remember the words they have learned in the last lesson.

2 (8-13 minutes) • Have Ss creating the story with minimum complications.

Ss put the strips of the story in order. Then Ss will come to WB and write the story in the correct order. T checks if everybody agrees with the order.

3 (4-7 minutes) • Make sure students understand the meaning of the idioms in the story.

Give Ss the definitions in example 2. and get them replace the idioms in the story. Ss can come to the board.

4 (6-9 minutes) • Ss speak actively about the activity in pairs

Give Ss the quiz from page 143. Ss do the quiz alone. Then work in pairs in order to compare answers and ask each other why they choosed option a,b or c.

5 (5-8 minutes) • Ss to draw a conclusion about themselves from the quiz and talk about it

Ss in pairs or groups discuss and come up with descriptors for the scores in ex 4.Take some FB.

6 (8-13 minutes) • Using the vocab skill successfully in a card game

In groups of 3, Ss arrange the cards in circle obn their desks with the description face up. Ss throw the dice and move colckwise round the cards.They have to guess the word & turn the card over to see if it is correct. They continue doing this in turns. So sometimes the card they will land on a word face up. And guess the definition. Let them play for awhile and collect the cards. Do a quick check by calling out definitions or the words.
