Main Aims

  • To review and practice lexis related to describing family members

Subsidiary Aims

  • To give Ss practice in listening for specific information

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (10-12 minutes) • To set a context for the lesson and introduce the Ss to new family lexis

Greet the Ss and get to know each other. On the WB, the T will start with his name and nickname. Ss will follow the same module to talk about their names, family members' names and nicknames.

Listening for practice (12-14 minutes) • To introduce the students to the family lexis and engage them with the context

Ss will listen to recording 1.1 (P.4) for two times. First, they will focus their attention on Susan's photo to help them identify the name she does not like and elicit some further information about her(e.g age, family members). Second, Ss will listen again to the track and match people in Susan's life (a-h) with names that they call her (1-8).

Pair Practice (10-12 minutes) • To reinforce the Ss's ability to spell the family lexis correctly

T will handout the Ss a list of scrambled family lexis. First each S will work individually and then check their answers with the partners. Eventually, T will check out the answers with the WC.

Speaking Part (8-10 minutes) • To encourage the Ss to talk about their family members

T will ask the Ss to practice the vocabulary they have learnt with their partners.
