Description

In this lesson, students will practice their listening skills through listening to a conversation between two friends who are talking about their cross Canada trip.The lesson will start with a short video about the weather. This is followed by two activities about weather's vocabularies. We will then practice listening about two people holiday in Canadian cities. Finally we will go over a speaking activity about the weather.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed listening practice using a text about a trip to Canada in the context of holidays and weather.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide conversation fluency speaking practice in the context of holidays and weather.
  • To provide practice of weather words in the context of holidays and weather

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (8-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will show a short weather song. T will ask Ss to think: what is that video about? Ss feedback Then,T will show pictures of the words: Sunny, cloudy, rainy, warm, snowy, windy, cold, cool. What we call these words? Elicit the word 'weather' Pronunciation practice.

Pre-Listening/ Vocabulary Ex#1&2 (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

EX#1: T will ask Ss to look at the map of Canada, complete the sentences with the names of the cities. T ask Ss, what are you going to do? Ex#2:Listen and check your answers.

Vocabulary activity #3 (extra activity) (4-5 minutes) • To provide practice of the weather words.

T will put the weather words' pictures below in 4 columns on the board rainy, warm, windy, snowy. T will hang some pictures in the classroom related to pictures above. T ask Ss to stand up and put pictures in the right column.

While Listening (listening Ex #1) (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

Listen to two people talk about their holiday in Canada. Put the photos in the order you hear. There is one extra photo. T will check with Ss. Then, listen again.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (2-3 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T will ask Ss to listen and think what is it about?

Post-Listening/ Speaking activity (5-6 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Work in pairs. Ask and answer these questions. What's the weather usually like on your birthday? What's you favorite weather?why? What weather don't you like?
