Description

In this lesson, the Ss will read a text comes from a magazine article, health: are you sitting comfortably. The Ss will also have the opportunity to practice their speaking skills and using the vocabulary related the body parts, which they will also learn in this lesson in the context of health.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and scan reading using the first part of a magazine article, they will ask and answer some questions form the first part of the article in the context of health. The Ss will practice more detailed reading of the second part of the article in order to find out more about the it's content and put some phrases in the right place

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice, the Ss will ask and answer some questions from the first part of the article, they will have a group discussion about what they do when they are sitting for a long time, Ss will talk about the advice given in the second part of the article in the context of health.
  • To provide clarification and practice the vocabulary connected to the body parts. The Ss will match the vocabulary with the body parts and compare their answers with with a partner.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask the Ss: How are you today? Are you feeling good? Tell the Ss to stand up. Give a series of instructions and mime them: Stretch your arms above your head. Shake your left leg Shake your right leg. Move your left shoulder. Move your right shoulder. Walk round in a small circle. Move your neck to the left-now to the right. Now sit down. Ask the Ss: Do you feel good now? Is it a good idea to move about when you are working or studying?

Pre-Reading/Listening (5-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Pairwork. Give instructions. Read the questions and ask your partner. Give the HOs. Model the activity by asking three questions at random to Ss in the class. Put the Ss into pairs to ask and answer the questions. Monitor the Ss will doing the task. Have a class feedback find out how many Ss said yes to more than two questions. Get the Ss to tell the class about their partner.

While-Reading/ 1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

Ss form new pairs: tell the Ss this text is from a magazine article. Ask theSs: what do you think this article is about? to help the Ss in their predictions: I will write the following phrases on the board: A comfortable chair. Keep your back straight. Go on holiday. Stretch your arms. Take frequent breaks Eat chocolate. Ss say their prediction. Ex3: the Ss will skim the the article to find out their predictions in Ex 2.

While-Reading/ 2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

Ex 4: Ss will read the article again and put the following phrases in the correct place: Project the sentences on the board or write them onto the W/B a) Take breaks often. b) Drink water. c) Move your body. d) Sit correctly. Give instructions: Read the article again and put these phrases in the right place. Check the Ss understand the instructions. After they done the task. Ask the Ss to compare their answers with their partner. Feedback with whole class.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Give instructions: Ask the students to underline seven words in the in the article connected to the body. check the Ss understand the questions. After the students finish the task. get the Ss to check their answers with their partner. Project the picture of the body onto the W/B Ask the Ss to match the body parts with the words in the box. The Ss go to the board individually and match the body part with it' name. Give instruction to the students : listen and tick the words you hear.
