Description

In this lesson, students learn collocations with the verbs have, go and get. First they look at common collocations with these three words that are often used in describing daily routines. Then,There we will be a focus on the difference between very similar sounding collocations. Afterwards the students listen to and practice pronunciation. Finally, the students will practice speaking activities using have, go, and get.

  • To provide practice in the pronunciation of vowels
  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversations in the context of daily routine

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will make a connection to the previous lesson. T will Point out the second sentence in the first paragraph (He goes to work......) T will highlight the verb and noun. T then will explain that go and to work usually go together.

Vocabulary activity #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading

T will write "to work" on the board inside the circle of go. T will draw two other circles of get and have. Instruct the students to fill in the words of page 43 under the three words alone. When students are finished, tell them to peer check. T will ask Ss to write the correct answers on the board.

Vocabulary activity #2 (5-8 minutes) • To clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T will ask Ss to Work in pairs: put these words in the circles. A shower, dressed, breakfast, classes, break, lunch when they finish, T ask Ss to write answers in the board.

Vocabulary activity #3 (4-5 minutes) • To clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T will write: I go home at 6:00 and get home at 6:15. I wake up at 7:00 and I get up at 7:05. What is the diffferenc between : 1. go home & get home 2. wake up & get up

Listening Tasks (8-10 minutes) • To provide practice in the pronunciation of vowels

1. Listen and repeat the sounds of the words. Have, get, wake, go 2. Put the words in the correct column in Exercise#1. Nap, break, home, bed, desk, make, seven, eight, any, day, flat, lamp, no. 3. Listen again and check your answers.

Speaking practice about collocations go, get, and have (5-7 minutes) • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversations in the context of daily routine

T will ask student A to interview student B about: What time do get up to bed? Do you have breakfast? what time do you .... go to classes? Get the bus or train? Have the coffee?Have lunch? Have a nap? get home?
