TP 8 // Vocabulary Lesson
To provide clarification, review and practice of target vocabulary related with outdoor activities in the context of social life
To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of outdoor activities in the social life.To give students freer speaking practice for using vocabulary related to outdoor activities to help their spoken fluency
Procedure (41-49 minutes)
My lesson will start with "Get in Line" activity. This is a kind of warm-up that involves all the participants lining up single-file according to a specified criteria. In this part of the lesson, I will give 3 questions to ss (1. How old are you? 2. What is your first name? 3. How many brothers or sisters have you got? ) they will ask these questions each other.For example, in the 2nd question, students will line up in alphabetical order by firs name. If one's name starts with "A" , s/he will stand on the starting point of line. At the end of this task, there will be 2 groups in the class. For lead-in, as a teacher, I will show four photos about topic of our lesson.I will want them to guess and also interpret the photos. I will support ss if they need.
After showing these photos, ss will try to guess and aIso interpret the situtations in photos As a teacher, I have two aims here: firstly, to provide to be familiar to our topic and theme and to draw students' attention to the target vocabulary, then, to expose their past experiences and activate their schemata.
I will show some coloured photos on my hand to elicit the targer vocabulary. I will use CCQs if needed. I will elicit 15 new words totaly in this way. Then, I will do pronunciation activity. I will want ss to listen to me and repeat. I will ask them to make a simple full sentence for each word. While doing this task, ss' course book (English for Life) will be closed because as a teacher I want ss to see the written form of the words at the end of the session.
IN STAGE 1 I will use a prepared material related with pronunciation which includes written form of the target vocabulary. My aim is to drill these target vocabulary in a correct way as pronunciation. IN STAGE 2 I will continue with a group work. I will tell ss to work in groups. I will post some photos and words on the walls of the class before lesson.I will ask them to stand up and find the correct photo and its name. Then they will match the words with their photos. After finished, ss will show and check their answers with WC. IN STAGE 3 I will give ss a handout. Pictunary=Picture Dictionary (Complete the sentences by helping pictures)In this worksheet, ss will have facility to drill the target vocabulary in a new context. Additionally, photos will assist them.
In this stage, ss will do exercise 3 on page 53 (Course Book English for Life-Pre-intermediate) Ask and answer with a partner about the activities. Ss will work in groups. I will monitor them during the task. I will help in case they need. This is a speaking activity by using TW. For example: Ahmet : Do you like.........? Hasan : Yes I love it
CONTINGENCY Students will do exercise 6 on page 53(Course Book- English for Life) They will write their own experiences by using target vocabulary.They will have 5 minutes for this drill. They will work in groups.I will give instructions clearly before the task and then I will monitor them as a teacher. If needed, if ss make some mistakes during the task, I will note down for feedback.
