Description

In this lesson, students will learn the past simple of the verb "to be " in the negative and interrogative form. The main aim of this lesson will be Grammar. and speaking for sub aim Students will be able to use the past simple of the verb to be to talk about things they did in the past . They will have a range of activities for the 3 forms of to be in the past.

Materials

Abc Srtaight forward course book .
Abc HO. where were you?
Abc HO .Grammar was /were (Questions / Negatives)

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of was / were .Interrogative and negative form in the context of talking about people and things in the past .

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a concersation in the context of crime film

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Act a dialogue between a teacher and a student who was aaccuse to do something he and his friend. get the students play the dialogue in pais or in small group and exagerate to work on the stress.

Test #1 (5-8 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Give HO of two exercises to the students and get them do the exercises in few minutes . Once they finish n they exchange the answers with their peers.

Teach (8-10 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

Put the grammar point on the board and ask the student to work in groups of 3 and explain to each other how to form the negative and interrogative form . T.asks these questions to the whole class 1-How to form negative form? 2-How to from interogative form? 3-What are time expressions

Test #2 (5-8 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

give the students a second test where they have to reorder the sentences to get correct sentences.

Free practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

1- T. writes 10 phrases naming different locations on the board. -at the cinema . -in the bath -on the hill -in Mc Donald -sleeping -in the Zoo- -with my friends. -in a restaurant T.writes up this sample dialogue: A- I phoned you yesterday at ........ O'clock .- No answers . Where were you? B-I was ................ Ask the student to act out the dialogue giving different explanations and different times and days . act the dialogues in different moods( angry- happy boring excited- scared). 2- Speaking : T writes Find someone who ........ students have to move around the class. ask...were you questions. answer yes, I was / No I wasn't. Complete the space with names .. Where you in bed at 9 O'clock last night? Yes, I was.
