Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show students a picture of family of elephants. Draw cline on the board. Elicit the word: smallest, smaller, small, big, bigger, biggest.

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Write the words from the box in EX1 in pieces of paper, stick them on the board then give clear instruction to the Ss: Pick a word from the board and make three comparative and superlative.

Free Practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Get the students to check their answers with the rest of the class. The Ss will choose a partner or a group of Ss to talk to and have some feedback. Get one students to write on board the rules for forming comparative and superlative adjectives. 1,2,3,4 Another Ss write the comparative and superlative forms for : bad, good and far.

Feedback (2-3 minutes) • Check the students answers of Ex1

check the student answers with whole class, get the students to write their answers on the W/B. Correct some pronunciation mistakes.

Semi-Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

EX 2: show the students pictures of differents sports, focus the students attention on the table . Ask question: which sport is more popular the football or rugby? Give clear instruction about the task in the EX 2. Check if the Ss understand the task. Ask the students to choose a word from the board to fit in the sentences from a to f. Project the EX 2 on the board.

Free Practice (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Give clear instructions about the task in EX 3. Check the Ss understand the task. Ask the students to work individually to complete the sentences with their own opinions. Allow the students to compare their sentences is small groups before checking answers with the class. Ask the Ss to find someone who share their opinions.

Free practice (10-12 minutes) • Give the students the opportunity to practice their speaking skills and to use the TL they learned.

Ask the students : How well do you know the city of Istanbul? Give instructions: Discuss these questions with your partner and write the answers down. Use the projector, the students will see the questions and the board. Allow 5 min for the Ss discussion. Tell the Ss to discuss in groups and decide who well know Istanbul.
