Description

In this lesson SS are going to review and practice simple past. they are going to talk about two men in prison and their past life then they are going to review simple past and have controlled and freer practice for that.

Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

teacher will stick a funny sketch of two cellmates in prison. and model a question they ask each other. for example: did you like your work? did you rob banks? how did they catch you? where did you live? did you have a lot of friends? SS are going to play these two cellmates and ask each other these questions or any questions that comes to their mind about the past.

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

choose a very famous story that almost everybody knows that. write the name f the story and 1 or 2 line about that. ask the students to complete them and continue it. what do they remember about the story? they are going to write and share their ideas. as they are writing teacher will monitor and finds out the weaknesses.

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

elicit SS answers and write them on the board. ask CCQs: 1- is the action in the past? 2- is it finished? 3- do we know when it happened? sometimes elicit different forms of the past irregulars with a game. and SS repeat them.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

give ss the beginning of the stories and ask them to continue the story in pair and stick them on the wall and other ss read and guess whose story is this. one day i met the most handsome boy/ prettiest girl....... one day i left the kids for a min and when i came back.......... it was a beautiful spring morning............ when i got my first car/ house......... my first day at school was................ feedback.

Free practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

1- ss are going to talk about different part of a day in the last week and talk about: what did they do? where did they go ? who did they visit? 2- they can play board game in group with a dice.
