Description

In this lesson students are going to learn and practice new vocabularies related to souvenirs, countries, regions and personal things. The lesson will be followed by listening task as sub aim then, they are going to practice the vocabulary.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of souvenirs, countries and regions in the context of travel

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about travel

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

students are going to talk about when was the last time they went to travel? why? what did they do? where did they go and what did they buy? Instruction: talk in group of 3 for 3 minute about these questions on the board.

Exposure (10-12 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T will show students some realias ( souvenirs from different parts of Iran and different parts of the world) 2- Teacher will elicit and preteach " souvenir" /ˌsuːvəˈnɪə(r) CCQ: 1: do we buy them when we are on holiday or when in our own city? ( on holiday) 2- what is the souvenir of Mashhad? North? where is north? ( part of Iran, a region or area in Iran) T will elicit where is Iran to preteach Asia and Middle East. / teacher will write it on the board with part of speech and phonetic form and SS will repeat. Teacher will elicit some more examples.

Clarification (20-22 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

elicit SS answers and teach region, Asia, Europe, Middle East, North Africa, Central America After that teacher will stick the colorful pictures of souvenirs on the wall ( some are selected from the book ) and ss in pair are going to stand up and take a look at them and guess about them. they should talk where are they from? which part of the world? what are they? stick A4 paper and Pictures on the wall tell SS to write in pair their answers ( the country, region and what is in the picture). elicit the correct word and give the ss a short description about them to match them with pics. Instruction: in pair, stand up, look and guess where are they from? which part of the world? what are they? PLZ. ICQ: 1: alone or in pair? Pair 2: elicit the questions they are supposed to answer. give SS time to read them again students with the same interest in the souvenirs are grouped and write a postcard about the country, region and the souvenir. T will show a real postcard as an example.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

SS are going to brainstorm in their group about different regions and the countries with a map. elicit SS answers. they are going to listen and match the countries and the pics. Part 2d.2, 2d.3, 2d.4 give the students answers sheet or check in the group or give the answer to one student and she/he plays the role of the teacher. Instruction: listen, choose the pic or match them? (choose)

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

students are going to talk about these questions on cards: 1- have you got any favourite souvenir? 2- what is the best souvenir you have ever got? 3- what are the special souvenirs in your city, hometown, country?

Free Practice (8-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

students are going to change their groups and ask each other about their personal things they have with them or the things they have at home and they like? where they got it? when? • Where is your item from? • Why did you buy it? •What do you most like about it? •Where do you keep it at home? • Do you think people would like to visit where you got that item? Why?
