Procedure

Warmer (5-7 minutes) • To engage to Ss to the target language

- T asks Ss "do you like the story of the Paradise Ridge" wait for answers - Put Ss in pairs to talk about what they like and dislike about paradise ridge "talk to your partner what do you like and dislike about paradise ridge? would you like to live there" - Get w/c feedback and elicit one of the rules about paradise ridge ex. the whole community must vote on new families. - write the sentence onto the w/b and ask Ss what Must means in this sentence and elicit obligation

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

- Tell Ss we going to learn some new verbs - put Ss in groups of 3s or 4s according to the number of Ss - show the cut ups and explain to Ss that they are going to match sentences from the text to headings ex. to talk about obligation - set time limit 4 minutes - give Ss papers to stick the cutups onto the paper - Tell Ss to check their ans to the key answers on the walls - deal with any questions Ss might have

Clarification (10-15 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

- after Ss have finished the cut ups activity - show slide 1 and ask Ss what verb do we use with each heading - transition through the slides as you go through the verbs for each heading - show slide 6 with the example for the first heading and CCQs for each of the headings with the examples - check the forms by asking students which verb is used for each eg. Can sell, sell is infinitive - after Ss have answered the questions show the corresponding form on the slide - check for pronunciation by modeling and drilling each example sentence from the slide

Semi-Controlled practice (8-10 minutes) • To enable Ss to practice the verbs they leaned and gain some confidence

- Show Ss slide 14 onto the w/b - ask Ss some questions about the girl's age and elicit the word teenager - if Ss couldn't find out about the word tell them the words and explain it to them briefly - tell Ss we are going to look at her thoughts and try to give her an advice using the verbs we learned earlier - put Ss in pairs and set time limit - get feed back as whole class

Free Practice (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

- Tell Ss now we will do more practice on how to use the verbs we learned - put Ss in groups - hold the HO and show it to students - Tell Ss you are going to make you own community, decide what kind of community do you to make and give it a name (remind them of paradise ridge) - warn Ss not to unfold the HO - give Ss the HO one per group - after they have answered the questions and chosen a name tell Ss to unfold the paper and think about rules and laws for their community - monitor and check if Ss are using the target language - put HOs onto the w/b - tell Ss to some to the w/b and read about each others communities - when they sit down tell Ss to vote on the best community
