Main Aims

  • By the end of this lesson, ss will have practiced reading/listening for specific information in the context of favorite things.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will demonstrate context by displaying images on PP of favorite things. T will speak about why these are her favorite things using words within the vocabulary list. T will further demonstrate vocabulary words while speaking. What makes You happy? Why do these things make you happy? What is happiness to you? Does happiness come from within?

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T will have elicited vocabulary words. T will give proper pronunciation and meaning. drilling each word and using CCQ"s. Vocabulary words( joy, cherish deny, solitary, sunrise) T will elicit words by using images. CCQ's JOY- Is she happy Is she sad? CHerish_ Does she care about it? Does she love it? Is she trying to avoid it? Deny- Is she angry? Does she not want to do it? Does she agree with it? solitary- Is she around alot of people? Is she lonely? Does she look happy? sunrise- Does this happen at night? Does it happen in the morning? Is it when we wake up? Is it a beautiful thing too see? T will ask ss what makes them happy? ss will think of 5 things that make them happy and write them down. ss will compare w a partner. T will ask ss to choose to choose one thing that makes them the happiest from their list. Share with the class what it is and why it makes them happy? ss will share information in open pairs.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with practice in detailed reading/listening tasks

T will allow ss to listen to an audio of a song entitled "Flying Without Wings" by the Irish band Westlife. After listening, SS will read the song and try to match the vocab words with the correct meaning. SS will need to focus on the context of the word and how its used with in the song. Feed back will be given on board.

While Reading/Listening #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with practice in reading/listening for specific information.

T will ask ss locate the words on the right side of the page. SS will need to look at the words on the right side of the page and choose the correct word to complete the song lines. SS will need to focus on the grammatical context and the rhyme of the song. T will ellicit the the answers form the ss to the first two gaps. SS will complete the rest of the gaps in pairs. T will play recording at the end of the activity to check answers.

Post-Reading/Listening (10-15 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T will ask ss what do they think the title of the song means. "what does flying without wings mean?" T will ask students to discuss in groups if they found any of the things on thir lists in the song. T will allow ss to converse in an open discussion about their favorite things. SS will pick a name from the box and ask that person one of the questions on the list. SS will continue to do this as OP. T will demonstrate first example by asking a ss one of the questions. SS will write about 2 people in their family. Students will need to describe them using.....\ - what they look like their likes and dislikes their personalities SS will display as open gallery and will observe one another's written work.
